One of the things you must deal with on Halloween is making a choice between walking the streets with your leftover burning man costume or celebrating with a horror flick. If you're a rookie and just moved to the big city from a place like Idaho do not attempt either. Just treat it like New Year's Eve! Keep telling yourself you’re not a loser while you stay home watching bad comedy and pounding the sweets, sure you might have a massive sugar high, but eventually you will drift into a blissful sleep and all Hallows’ Eve will pass you by without the hair on your arms standing straight from fright. If you’re from a city with a lot of corn fields you should be used to horror. Corn is scary. For example, Children of the Corn didn't come out of thin air. Find that house party, if you’re lucky you can find yourself in your own horror movie especially if the party is in a remote location with people playing seven minutes in heaven.
If you're a Halloween veteran and live in Los Angeles don't set yourself up for a let-down. You are not in New York, and the city will not turn into a freaks gone wild like it does in the subways around midnight. Manage expectations. We have all been victims of our hopes getting botched. Find the sweet spot of having the shit scared out of you by flipping on a horror flick. If you're already depressed, try ludicrous horror. One thing I know is that laughter is better than any meds. Okay maybe not, but an adrenaline rush can be a nice evening starter.
